He,Amos Fortune, discovered luck glands: good luck and bad luck glands - and a way to stimulate the former so he'd succeed at every robbery he tried. He finally tied the JLA to a wheel that as it spun their good luck glands would be jolted by a special charge until they went necrotic. Then they'd have nothing but bad luck for the rest of their lives. Mr. Fortune would burn out his bad luck glands and spend the rest of HIS life succeeding at every heist, robbery, etc., he tried.
Unfortunantly, Jonn Jozz had NO luck glands and was not affected. In fact, his powers were protecting the other JLAers. He broke free and captured Amos Fortune. A rather far-fetched story and luck glands were NOT referred to again.
Amos Fortune later returned with the Royal Flush Gang whose power was from "stellaration".
